Can a wifi usb adapter create an access point through my computer?

Right now, I have a WIRED router. I recently bought an ipod touch, so I was wondering if I can just buy a wifi adapter and plug it in to my computer to let my ipod access the internet?

Are there any settings (on the computer and ipod) that I need to fiddle with? Or does it just work as soon as I plug it in?

  1. you would need to bridge your two connections… if its even possible

  2. I dont see why you couldnt do that because my GranDaughter connects to the internet useing her Wii game useing my wireless router.

  3. The USB adapter cannot function as an Access Point.

What you’re looking for is called an “AdHoc” network.

I don’t think the iPod touch is compatible with that network standard, however.

  4. What if I say its possible???

But you need to make a research before you purchase a USB adaptor.
A few years back I was to download a software that was to Configure my Wireless PCI Adaptor to be run like an Access Point.

Software was downloaded from Download.com or another Software Archive website.

Here is a link for same catagory software I am not sure this is the same software or some new but features are same.

You can download and try this Software with USB…

USB Wireless Card make a Network Connection

Now this software all have to do is … Bridging between Network Connections… And routing LAN connection to Wireless Network Connection to Provide Connectivity for other Wireless Clients or Devices.

One more thing is important…. that is Chipset of your Wireless Card its PCI/USB/PCMCIA/ or any other… but Chipset would be like… Atheros,Proxim,3com,intel and many others.

Card I was to use for experiment using a Wireless Card as Access Point was … TP-Link 802.11g card with Atheros Chip.
