I'm surprise that my PS3 is using a 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz. Is there a way to fix it or get it to pick up the 5ghz band?

Sorry but you're out of luck. The PS3 supports 802.11b and 802.11g, neither of which work at 5GHz.
