Almost all routers and wireless access points allow administrator to modify or manage their wifi account through special administrative account. Through that account, you can modify or change the username and password; two most important details required to access the account. This goes the same with Linksys router password. You can change the Linksys router default password easily if you know some tips.
Both username and password are set in the factory by manufacturers. More often than not, the username would be "admin" or "administrator". As for the password, well you can try leaving it blank or use some simple word like "admin", "password", or "public". To prevent other people from unsolicited use of your account, you are advised to change the password on your wireless router upon successful installation of the unit. These general passwords are too common; they are well-known to hackers and posted freely on the internet. If you can change your administrative username, do it as well.
Linksys router default password is created model-specific. For example, the cable/DSL models use "administrator" as username, while Comcast routers use "Comcast" for username and "1234" for password. All other Linksys router has no default username (simply leave it blank and press enter) but do use "admin" as password. If you have forgotten your password, the best thing to do is to reset it at factory default settings. To do so, you need to hold on to the reset button for about 30 seconds. Then, you'll need to log in (using the initial default password and username) and configure the settings again. Bear in mind that if your IP address changed during the reset, you may need to wait up to 24 hours to receive a new address. Also, you can use WAP to encrypt your system for added security.
Seeing how easy it is to breach Wifi network security, you should change your username and password periodically (i.e. every 1-3 months). Also, try to use encrypted words or at least words that are difficult to guess. If you change your password, you may be asked to enter it twice. This ensures that you did not accidentally type in the wrong password the first time. To confirm the change, simply click "Save Settings". The new Linksys router password takes effect immediately and there is no need to reboot the system. You should explore your router settings and change password for security purposes.
