Question by Travis J: How to use wifi antenna as a wifi transmitter/access point?
My scenario is this, I want to use a wifi pci antenna card on my pc with wired internet connection as an access point. I have gotten a signal to be transmitted from it using drivers meant for another products, but i can't connect to it, that is it gives me an IP error.
Buying a router is not an option.

Internet connection sharing on?
Put your drivers back the way they were, and set up an "ad hoc" network using a STATIC IP, then tell the other machines to use the IP as the default gateway.

Cool…I have a n95 8gb, and i’m thinking of extending the original wifi antenna with a 12cm (one lamda) length of wire at the antenna connection. Is that going to work? Is it possible using 24cm (two lamda) length of wire to give me extra 3dbi antenna gain?

Sorry but its real! Im working a lot with mobiles and have real knowledge about this, you can ask anyone that knows about wifi antennas how to extend coverage, with real antennas.

Sorry but i have lost my phone, but the antenna is on the right side of the phone, just take the back cover off and you see it, its a small loop antenna, and you have to make your own connector thats fit into the existing one. God luck regards Chris

To further enhance the signal grabbing ability, fill the foil-lined bowl with a mixture of molasses and Kosher Dill pickle juce. Place the filled bowl and phone assembly in the microwave for 20 minutes. When the Fire Dept. arrives, look behind their truck. There will usually be a local TV station Satellite truck. Often times these trucks have Wi-Fi hotspots in them. Ask for the Wi-Fi passcode and log in. Enjoy!! LOL

[first im not english]
Tutorial #2 (instead of Tut#1 video)
i forget, you know whats working too?
If you cut some paper (better carton/cardboard) and put inside kitchenfoil/aluminum foil you get the same result but WAY better is creating some “satellite dish” looking like papper + kitchenfoil/alu. foil. don’t forget to aim to the place where your router is.

Nice tip, good you clean the sharp edges but serious it looks cheap as hell, maybe paint it or print some nice picture and put it on it ^^

Won’t it just direct it in one area?
October 22nd, 2010 - 11:39
Next time just use a can opener to take the lid off, its much more easier.
You wont have to worry about the duck tape ever again.
October 22nd, 2010 - 12:19
This should actually kill your signal since the can is too small to allow for a full wifi wave length. It MIGHT work because it redirects the omnidirectional signal into a unidirectional. Transmission might benefit, but certainly not reception.

And hey emo kids! When you’re done making it, you can use the sharp can top to slit your wrists!

it works but this method is for a pigtail setup(if u know what i mean)…the best way to boost signal with any dongle is to use somthing like an old sat dish/steel salad bowl/anything with a curve(preferably parabolic)….i actually play tf2(online game)using someones inet from 2 blocks away using a curved piece of sheet steel……if only they knew lol
October 22nd, 2010 - 15:46
not an antenna, just adding more area to find more signal, all u did was put it on your adapter, nothing special
October 22nd, 2010 - 16:39

it rocks. Increased my signal strength to the max (54 Mb) that my router puts out. My old signal was around 12 – 18 Mb. I did experiment with this though to get my signal strength up to the max. In order to do so I had to pull my wifi adapter about 2/3’s out of the front opening in the can. I don’t know why it works better this way, it just does. Mayby its because I used a Mountain Dew can. lol
Thanks, this has made my life a lot better.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnno, I know a potato does not divert the wifi signal into one concentrated area
(I think), like aluminum does
